Siding!

We've been missing! Work got awfully busy and we contracted everything out. No more home improvement mishaps and creative tinkering... probably a good thing!

I present to you... a lot of pictures that will make your computer angry.

Leveling the House

Our house getting leveled and inching closer to the pink goal.
Part of the shim pushed into our joists by the jack!
Even closer!
The jack at work.
The flimsy "frame" that they constructed to hold up the stairs separating as the house gets lifted!

The Siding Project: The Beginning

Siding removed underneath a window.  Ooh, that rot!
Our patchwork house!
Some water damage along the garage doors.
Wait a second, this isn't wood!
Welp, it'll be getting replaced!
Pro duct tape.
She's so bare and exposed in her shameful construction!
All closed and gloomy.
Foam is a bad idea.
I always wanted to know what a house looked like without windows.
Back deck partially dismantled for access.
Chimney expertly capped against rain.
It's more expertly capped than previously!
Siding test.  I like the dark colors together, but Sherwin William's Charwood on Charwood was vetoed :/

Time for a brief garden interlude

Life emerging from our winter landscape.
Magnolias?  Some sort of white flowered tree!

The geese have taken over.
Tiny blue flowers on our forest floors.
Tree!
More plants I can't identify!
Daffodils!  That was an easy one.
Water!  I'm an A+ student.
But our fields look so lovely as is.  Just don't walk in it, you might disappear.
Fields of green.
Plant things!
Such a bright green.
Cones!  Really close up.
Dandelion fields.
It's so purdy.
It'll get purdy.
Maybe I should just start over.
We have a lot of trees.
This trio looked snazzy driving in!
A late bloomer.
Branch is still hanging on, somehow!
More white flowers!
Peonies?  They've wilted by now, sorry!
Unknown shrub.
Holy fungi!
Creepily creeping up.
Red bark tree blooming!
Along with all the pretty irises.

Back to the super serious business of siding.

Duct tape can only hold the house for so long.
Our windows removed!
Just look at that expert yellow foaming that someone did earlier this year.
Glad to have the rotting sill gone!
All stacked up for viewing pleasure.
Ooh, new framing and windows completely boarded!
My, you're looking handsome and sharp with that yellow furring on asphalt felt.
Orange for a pop of color!
I'm irrationally excited about the furring strips and incoming rain screen.
It's so... symmetrical!
I'm in love.
But I guess the house can't stay like this forever.
How long can tar paper last against the elements, again?
Not long enough.  It's really dark inside, btw!
That's a lot of junk.  Goodbye foam!

Bullsh&$ Interlude

We made a terrible mistake with our tractor.  It did not include pulley tensioner and router for the mower deck.
Cue our new shiny Kubota tractor.  All our monies!
But so shiny!  And so effective!
It does driveways too!
It tears up driveways too!
There's always time for creative solutions.
Look at it drain!
Soon it will be smooth.  By soon, I mean next year.

I return you to the siding project

I present our siding color: Yankee Barn with Charwood trim!
Front door with welcome mat on the inside!
Cozy retreat.
Painted garage doors!  That are dark grey...Sherwin Williams Storm Cloud
More siding!
I promise, it's not a bright red!
We're getting windows put back in again!
They actually slide up and down!
Chimney getting wrapped!
The blocking for outlets and stuff are super cool.
Protecto wrap around the new windows.  This wasn't present before.
In progress.
Look ma, a DOOR!  It was really dark inside all boarded up during the spring rains.
And WINDOWS!
MORE DOORS!  Okay, it's the same door, but showing the shimming into place.
The completed porch.  Got my haint blue porch ceiling, also Storm Cloud :)
Progress to date.  She's looking so comfy already.
Closeup of the true colors underneath the porch.
Even CLOSER!  Love the rough sawn cedar, so tactile!
Our humble front door.  Will most likely get painted sometime... on our list!
A window.  Self-explanatory!
Chimney and side of the house.
Back of the house with that new sliding patio door.
Back of the garage and our new steel garage door.  Also a broken hot tub.
Side of the garage.  Ooh, looking snazzy.
Just can't get that color to show up correctly, but at least it's a bit darker here.
Storm Cloud.  Really!  Not white.
Our old windows!  Anyone need kinda crappy windows that won't stay up and houses ladybugs in the valences?
We're super excited and anxious.
